Geometrics and straight lines

My early compositions were based on classic grid formats such as the 9-patch or 16-patch. My original block designs let me play with and obscure the underlying block structure. The great thing about an explicit or implicit grid format is it allows me to experiment with crazy combinations of shapes and colors, knowing they will be constrained and contained by the basic dimensions of the grid. Now my geometric lines and shapes move across the entire design surface, foregoing the grid entirely. My only compositional constraint is the perimeter of the quilt itself.
